For over 70 years, Everton arranged intra-squad practice matches, usually for charity, ahead of the new season. The matches were Blues v Whites or Stripes or Ambers, to match the kits the teams were wearing. Some matches were first team versus reserves, some were teams with a mix of both. They were held at Goodison Park in front of the eyes of thousands of supporters.
